Linux: Reclaim your freedom
What is Linux?
Linux is a family of operating systems based on the Linux Kernel (yes, the kernel is also called Linux). Linux is open source by design and although some projects like Android heavily depends on proprietary software, most of the Linux distributions are open source. I should also mention that 99% of the Linux distributions are free!
Where do I start?
I personally started with an Arch Linux based distribution, however I highly suggest you to start with Linux Mint. Cinnamon Edition to be exact. Linux Mint is the most beginner friendly distribution for a while now. To install it, you just need two things; The first being a 4gb or a larger USB stick (preferably disposable because sometimes Linux written USB's no longer work on Windows) and the second, being a USB burner software. For Windows users, I recommend Rufus. For Intel Mac users, I recommend using Google because I don't have the slightest clue about Mac ecosystem. For M series Mac users... Linux is still a work in progress. There is Asahi Linux, but it is not daily use ready. After that, you may or may not need to change your boot order and secure boot state in your BIOS based on your computer. Since BIOS configuration varies based on computer model, I can not write any details about that but it's rather easy, just google it. You are all set from there, the installation is quite straight forward.
Why would I though?
With the recent news and researches, it is rather obvious that Both Microsoft and Apple wants to collect your data and use it for various purposes like advertisement IDs. Almost no Linux distribution has this kind of data collection or tracking. Because Linux distributions are community driven, nobody dares to do that. Also, Linux distributions do not have built in advertisement so, no random apps appearing on your start menu/widgets.
